Courses 2019

At this year’s HAMMER IN there is the possibility to participate in different courses and workshops. The courses take place from Wednesday, 24th of July to Friday, 26th of July and are intended to give interested people the opportunity to further their education. The exact time frame is set by the instructors with the participants directly at the blacksmithing meeting.

„Tong forging“ with Georg Reinking (Italy)

Date: Wednesday, July 24th 13:00-18:00
and Thursday, July 25th 10:00-18:00
(The exact start and end of the course must be agreed on-site with the instructor)

Description: This one-and-a-half-day tong forging course teaches theory and practical techniques for forging different blacksmithing tongs.

Target group: blacksmith and metalgestalter apprentices and hobbyists

Preconditions: basic experience with running a coal forge, basic forging experience at the anvil and with power hammers

Language: German

Course fee: € 320, – (including standard materials)

Number of participants: 4-6 pers. (In less than 4 registrations, the course does not take place)


„Axe forging I“

Date: Wednesday, July 24th 10:00-16:00
(The exact start and end of the course must be agreed on-site with the instructor)

Description: During the half-day blacksmithing course, a small axe is forged. Techniques such as working with a striker, the correct use of the tools, the grinding and heat treatment of the axe as well as making a handle are taught.

Preconditions: Basic experience in forging and striking. Basic English skills. (This course is not suitable for beginners!)

Language: English

Course fee: € 200, – (including standard materials)

Number of participants: 4-8 pers. (In less than 4 registrations, the course does not take place)


„Casting for metal gestalter“ with Georg Hein

Date: Friday, July 26th 10:00-18:00
(The exact start and end of the course must be agreed on-site with the instructor)

Description: This one-day workshop teaches the basics of sand casting. On different models, the different approaches and techniques of the casting process are demonstrated and tried out.

This learned knowledge can give new possibilities in the field of restoration as well as in contemporary metal art and craft.

Target group: blacksmiths, metal workers, and designers with basic knowledge (trainees, journeymen, and masters)

Language: German

Course fee: € 180, – (including standard materials)

Number of participants: 3-6 pers. (In less than 3 registrations, the course does not take place)
